Peace Day at Juniata College in Pennsylvania
Several student groups and campus initiatives are collaborating to honor Peace Day on our small, liberal arts campus. PAX-O (peace and conflicts studies club), Hillel (Jewish student organization), and Planting Seeds (interfaith community service initiative) are the main organizers.
Two main events are in the works for Peace Day. The first is a Peace Walk to our outdoor peace chapel, including a candlelight vigil with prayers, poems, and other writings contributed by the Brethren Student Fellowship, Muslim Student Association, All Ways of Loving (LGBTQ student group), and Strong Voices (student organization against domestic violence and abuse). The Peace Walk will begin late in the evening on Thursday, September 19 with plans to end at midnight.
The second event will be Pinwheels for Peace, in which students from campus will be recruited outside of the main dining hall throughout the week to color and decorate pinwheels with images or sayings of peace and ceasefire. The pinwheels will be displayed throughout the campus quad all day on September 21.
