One day for peace?
In 2012, we’ll pray for one day of ceasefire. One symbolic day for peace doesn’t do the job - but it is a great place to start. And then we’ll build from there - each year after, we’ll widen the circle of ceasefire and reconciliation. If every community really enacted a powerful day of ceasefire in 2012, and added a day each following year, it might take us only 365 years to reach peace and reconciliation. How long did it take to build the system of war, violence, and oppression that we live within now? Seems like a shorter process, to take “only” 365 years to build peace and reconciliation. Such an effort would require and demand the best creativity of preachers, teachers, parents, scholars, civic leaders, businesspeople, farmers, women, men, youth, elders, people of all cultures and races. What do you think? Shall we start with one day in 2012?
